The Perpetual Motion Suzuki Strings Biography
The Perpetual Motion Suzuki Strings are a group of 31 violin students ages 6 and up. Their widely varied repertoire includes classical pieces by composers such as Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Handel, and Brahms; as well as holiday music, bluegrass, and folk songs from around the world. The group performs solo and ensemble concerts under the directions of James Hutchins. The Perpetual Motion Suzuki Strings perform frequently in the Greater Washington Area. The group recently performed twice at the White House. This later performance was for former first Lady/Senator Hillary Clinton and the official opening of the White House for the holiday season. The group has also performed the National Anthem before a Baltimore Orioles, Washington Wizards, Washington Freedom, Frederick Keys and Potomac Cannons baseball games, played at The United States Capitol, The Kennedy Center, DAR Constitution Hall, the National Zoo, has played with The Suzuki Tour Group of the Carolina, has played at local shopping malls, and enjoyed serenading residents of nursing and retirement homes. In addition, members of the group have performed on cable/satellite television,radio and for a commercial, in local youth orchestras, and for weddings and other social occasions. Group members perform at workshops and Suzuki institutes throughout the United States and Canada. The group also recorded a CD at the XM Satellite Radio Studios on Washington, DC. Recently the group performed a concert on the Millennium Stage at the Kennedy Center.
The Suzuki method, named after its founder Dr. Shinichi Suzuki of Japan, is geared towards young children. The children learn by constant positive reinforcement; repetition; parent involvement; and a lot of listening, love, and encouragement. Beginning violin study early in life allows the children to achieve remarkable musicality and technical proficiency by a young age, often before they even know how to read. The Perpetual Motion Suzuki Strings are joyful performers providing enjoyable entertainment for all ages. |

About the Teacher
The group director, Mr. Hutchins, is a Suzuki trained violinist himself. In addition to teaching and directing The Perpetual Motion Suzuki Strings, Mr. Hutchins has served as a guest clinician at workshops and Suzuki institutes throughout the country and in Singapore and Mayasia. Mr. Hutchins received a grant to study the Suzuki method in Japan and was given the wonderful opportunity to perform a concert for Dr. Suzuki at his home. Mr. Hutchins helped lead a good will Suzuki tour to the Bahamas. This tour included performing at the Governor's mansion, teaching master classes, and providing instruction for local underprivileged children. Mr. Hutchins has performed throughout the United States, Canada, the Bahamas, Israel, Africa,Singapore,Malaysia and Japan.
